In an effort to strengthen working ties, the Commissioner General of the Uganda Revenue Authority John Musinguzi met with a team from the Nigerian Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) today.
The team has concluded a 5-day benchmarking exercise in URA’s compliance risk management mechanisms.
Musinguzi thanked the team for choosing to work with URA to improve their services, efficiency and ultimately the fate of their nations.
He observed that they can all learn a great deal from one another and that these gatherings always provide a platform for productive conversations.
Additionally, Musinguzi said he was looking forward to sharing ideas with FIRS on how to effectively leverage revenue from broadcasting and telecommunications. He promised to deploy a team to acquire additional information and skills in handling them over time.
Angel Fadahunsi from the FIRS noted that during a TADAT review in April this year, the team recognized a weakness in the risk compliance area. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recommended that they learn from the processes implemented by URA or SARZ. It is upon this background that the team FIRS team visited Uganda.
Fadahunsi said they intend to continue learning from URA until they can improve the compliance risk department in FIRS. He added that they plan to undergo practical sessions in addition to theory to enhance their understanding of the concept of compliance risk management.
Fadahunsi noted that they found significant differences and they intend to learn from these to improve their system.
During the meeting, the FIRS team commended URA’s performance management tool and AEO tool, noting that they are good processes to ensure compliance.
