Recently, the Uganda Revenue Authority trained large taxpayers on its latest innovations, including interaction of the new web portal, ledger system and monthly VAT web-based tax returns with pre-filled forms. The training took place in Sendaula Hall, Nakawa.
Opio Charles Vincent, the Supervisor in Domestic taxes, explained that the new online return will replace the existing MS Excel return form for tax periods commencing on November 1, 2023.
“The pre-filled form will be based on a taxpayer’s EFRIS transactions. This will allow taxpayers to declare additional sales and dispute any unknown purchases,” he explained.
Moses Mugumya, the Manager of Client Relationship Management at the Large Taxpayers Office explained that the new ledgers have been simplified by tagging payments to specific periods and summarizing transactions and tax balances for each tax type.
“The new ledger provides transparency by specifying the principal tax, penal tax, interest and outstanding balance,” he added.
Mugumya encouraged all taxpayers to take advantage of the waiver as per Tax Procedures Act Section 40D which allows them to pay the principal amount and have interests and penalties removed as of December 31st.
He also emphasized the importance of the client relationship model for large taxpayers, which has fostered better working relations between taxpayers and URA. This, in turn has led to an increase in revenue.
