In an effort to spread tax education and improve taxpayer compliance, URA participated in a business exhibition that happened over the weekend in Fort Portal City. Here, locals received tax-related information on a variety of topics, including TIN registration, filing tax returns, and taxes that are levied on small enterprises, among others.
Tumusiime Robert from the local DT office urged the owners of small businesses to register for TINs stressing that the service is free.
Similar advice was given by Namwanje Veronica, the Executive Secretary of the Uganda Small Scale Industries Association (USSIA), who urged microbusiness owners to always contact URA anytime they received emails or messages.
“URA is made up of people like you; why should you fear them? When you get a message from them, approach them to get clarification and understanding. URA will listen to you,” she said.
Namwanje commended URA for helping small-scale business owners by educating them about taxes through programs of tax education and sensitization.
The street exhibition that attracted over 30 exhibitors was organized by USSIA and supported by the Uganda Revenue Authority among other stakeholders.
