The URA Commissioner General, John R. Musinguzi welcomed a team from Kenya Revenue Authority who visited URA to benchmark on the customs auctioning process and bonded warehousing system.
In his remarks, Mr. Musinguzi said that URA is automating processes through integration of systems between Bonded Warehouse Information Management System (BWIMS) and the auction process which has reduced human interaction.
The Commissioner General also commended the existing relations between the two countries noting that both URA and KRA have been conducting knowledge sharing in different areas.
“Uganda and Kenya have been having a good symbiotic collaboration where both authorities have paid visits to learn different things. The most recent one was on performance management which aims at creating a high-performance and building integrity within the organization,” he said.
Rispah Simuyu, the Ag. Commissioner General KRA explained that auctioning is a challenge to Kenya Revenue Authority because they are still operating manually.
She added that it is more meaningful to learn from countries within the region given the similarities in their processes.
According to Simuyu, KRA intends to develop the process and have it ready for use by June.
