Traders have been advised to maintain proper business records to benefit from the minimal taxes that come with it.
Thadeus Musoke, the Chairman Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) made these remarks while speaking at a traders engagement in Nabugabo yesterday. Musoke noted that this would help the avoid heavy assessments and also account for finances in their businesses.
His advise was not different from that of Hafsah Seguya, a tax literacy expert with URA who urged the traders to embrace the self-assessment regime and file taxes inorder to avoid penalties..
Seguya also appreciated KACITA for partnering with URA in conducting tax education noting that such engagements bring the Authority closer to traders who are crucial partners in developing the country.
“We value our clients that is why we are always engaging, educating to ensure paying taxes is deliberate and a behavior among people,” she said.
During the engagement, traders called on the tax body to improve the turnaround time for reconciling groupage cargo and requested that such sessions should be conducted together with policy makers to have their views incorporated and implemented.
This engagement is part of the joint tax education campaign that is being conducted by URA together with KACITA.
