By Kabahweza Kamugisha Allan, Media Management

The Commissioner Legal Services and Board Affairs Uganda Revenue Authority– Mrs. Patience T. Rubagumya has urged contract managers to give heed to the contracts they handle for the benefit of the Authority. Speaking at an engagement with URA’s contract handlers, the Commissioner said this is to ensure value for money is achieved in awarded contracts.

“We should not spend so much money on these contracts, but pay money that is within the market price and where there is a window for negotiation to get the best price for the goods and services we procure,” she said,

Mrs. Rubagumya also implored the managers to always follow procedures set within the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Act (PPDA) to the satisfaction of the Auditor General. She further urged them to advise management where they believe service providers are not meeting desired expectations, this will save URA’s resources, she added.

The engagement was convened to train URA’s Contract handlers on how to effectively manage contracts, improve service delivery and ensure URA obtains value for money regarding the services, supplies and work that it procures. The meeting also availed an opportunity to the managers to share experiences and challenges they face in the execution of their roles for learning purposes. They made a commitment to handle their roles in an efficient manner and in the best interests of URA.
