Uganda Revenue Authority has recovered 171 cartons of smuggled goods in the areas of Mbarara, Bugango, Kakunyu and Ntura. This recovery followed a focused operation that was launched by the area enforcement teams to purge the region of un-customed goods.

Customs officer Emmanuel Kabuye said the team received credible intel and collaborated with the respective police stations to apprehend the unsuspecting smugglers. They started in selected areas in Mbarara district and proceeded to Isingiro with the team recovering smuggled cosmetics and spaghetti from Tanzania.

Upon verification, 145 cartons of petroleum jelly and 26 cartons of spaghetti clearly labelled not for export were retrieved.

Offence management has commenced.
