In a bid to enhance taxpayer compliance, URA has digitalized most of its tax heads through tools like Digital Tax Stamps (DTS), Electronic Fiscal Receiptingand Invoicing System (EFRIS) among others.
However, there has been slow uptake and apprehension from some sections of the public. It is against this background that Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s) have been implored to embrace these initiatives.
Speaking at the 14th edition of the top 100 mid-sized companies Gala, the ACPCA Ibrahim K Bbossa urged the attendees to adopt usage of these tools because they not only promote transparency and simplicity but also encourage good business practices like book keeping.
He called for cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure compliance adding that URA is ready to support taxpayers from the stage of filing returns to payment.
“URA is tasked to collect 25.6 trillion this year to finance this country’s economy and this can only be done through collaborations, partnerships and honest conversations on how it can be made easy to comply so that we deliver on the target.” Bbosa said.
The gala was also attended by other government officials including State Minister of Finance for Investment and Privatization Hon. Evelyn Anite who pledged continued support to SME’s from government through lobbying for regional and international markets and promoting domestic investment.
She also urged SME owners to interest themselves in government incentives like land, credit, small interest loans in Uganda Development Bank among others.
